The news in brief

Since October 19, 2026, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay and Konek as payment options. The CRA announced it on October 20, 2026, during Small Business Week. In practice, you can now pay a balance to the CRA from your phone, through its online My Payment service.

One point matters before anything else: debit cards only. According to the CRA, you cannot use credit cards with My Payment, even when they sit in your digital wallet.

Which cards work?

The CRA asks for an activated debit card from a participating Canadian bank or credit union:

  • a Visa Debit or Debit Mastercard card;
  • or an Interac debit card, which can only be used through Apple Pay, Google Pay or Konek.

The card has to be linked to your Apple Pay, Google Pay or Konek wallet. The CRA does not charge a fee for this service, but your bank or credit union may, and it sets your transaction limits. Before a large payment, check your daily limit.

What can you pay?

My Payment serves individuals and businesses. For individuals, it covers items such as an income tax (T1) amount owing and instalments. For businesses, the CRA lists among others corporation income tax (T2) and its instalments, payroll source deductions and GST/HST remittances.

When does the payment count?

Usually, the payment is dated the same business day. A payment processed after 10:00 pm local time, on a weekend or on a statutory holiday is dated the next business day, and this can vary by bank or credit union. It can then take up to 3 business days to show in your CRA account.

So on a due date, do not aim for the last hour. Pay a business day early and keep the confirmation.

A federal change

This news is about the CRA's My Payment service. If you also pay a provincial tax agency directly, that agency's own payment options apply.

What we do

We prepare your returns and tell you, for each balance, how much to pay, to which agency and by what date. Keep the confirmation of every payment and upload it with your documents: we match it to your file so each payment is applied where it belongs.
