Your self-employed bookkeeping and taxes, taken care of

Account Direct keeps your books as a self-employed person, prepares your GST and QST returns and files them once you approve them. It's included in our bookkeeping plan, from $49.99 per month. Your income tax returns, with the T2125 federally and the TP-80 in Quebec, are available as an add-on.

Professional representation and electronic filing authorized by Revenu Québec.

Who it's for

  • Quebec self-employed people and sole proprietors: freelancers, consultants, tradespeople, drivers and shopkeepers.
  • Anyone starting out who wants to begin on the right foot, with GST and QST registration if they need it.
  • Anyone who has fallen behind and wants a clean start (catch-up work for earlier years is quoted separately).

What's included

  • Bookkeeping: your income and expenses recorded and classified, your bank and credit card accounts reconciled.
  • Your GST and QST returns, prepared and filed electronically once you approve them, and your registration if you aren't registered yet.
  • Your financial reports in your portal, including your income statement.
  • The invoicing tool in your portal, to bill your customers with the GST and QST.

As an add-on

  • Your year-end income tax returns, prepared and filed electronically once you approve them: your T1 return with Form T2125 federally, and your TP-1 return with Form TP-80 in Quebec.

How it works

  1. Create your account. Our team reviews it and emails you when it's approved.

  2. Upload your documents to your portal: bank and card statements, invoices and receipts.

  3. We keep your books every month and prepare your GST and QST returns.

  4. You approve, we file. At year end, with the add-on, we also prepare your income tax returns.

Frequently asked questions

Which returns do I file as a self-employed person?

Federally, your T1 return with Form T2125, which reports your business income and expenses. In Quebec, your TP-1 return with Form TP-80. If you're registered for the GST and QST, you also file your sales tax returns.

I earn less than $30,000: do I have to report my income?

Yes. The $30,000 threshold is about registering for the GST and QST, not about income tax. Your business income is reported on your income tax returns, whatever the amount.

When is my income tax return due?

As a self-employed person, you have until June 15 to file, federally and in Quebec. But any balance owing is due April 30: after that date, interest applies.

Do I have to pay tax by instalments?

Yes, if your net tax owing is over $1,800 for the year and was also over $1,800 in either of the two previous years. The threshold applies separately federally and in Quebec, and the payments are due March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15.

Which expenses can I deduct?

The expenses you incur to earn your business income, for the part used for the business: for example your supplies, your phone or your vehicle. Business meals are 50% deductible. A home office is deductible if it's your principal place of business, or if you use it only for the business and regularly meet clients there.

Can you do only my year-end income tax return?

The income tax return is an add-on to our bookkeeping plan: we prepare it from the books we keep with you all year. Your GST and QST returns are included in the plan.
